The term "OBS" (Old Body Style) generally covers Ford F-Series trucks and Broncos from 1980 to 1997, though the specific wheels you mentioned (5x139.7 bolt pattern) only apply to the 1/2-ton F-150s and Broncos.

The OBS F-150 / Bronco Sub-Generations:

While they all share a similar chassis and the same 5x5.5" (5x139.7) bolt pattern, enthusiasts break them down by front-end style:

  • "Bullnose" (1980–1986): Known for the slanted "nose" and the Ford letters on the hood (switched to the Blue Oval in '82).

  • "Bricknose" (1987–1991): Featured a flatter, more aerodynamic (for the time) front end with flush headlights.

  • "Aeronose" (1992–1996): This is the most common "OBS" style. It has the wrap-around turn signals and a smoother grille.

While these wheels fit all the years above, the 17x11 square setup is most popular on the 1992–1996 (Aeronose) F-150s. This generation's body lines handle the aggressive "poke" of a wide wheel very well, especially for the "Street Truck" or "Sport Truck" look often paired with a 2/4 drop or a slight leveling kit.

Full-Size Bronco (Compatible with 5x139.7)

All full-size Broncos from 1980 through the end of the original production run use the same 5x5.5" (5x139.7) bolt pattern.

  • "OBS" Bronco (1992–1996): The 5th Generation (Aeronose). This is the specific generation most people mean when they say "OBS." It is the most popular for the 17x11 square setup.

  • "Bricknose" Bronco (1987–1991): The 4th Generation. Shares the same hub assembly and fitment specs as the OBS.

  • "Bullnose" Bronco (1980–1986): The 3rd Generation. Also shares the same bolt pattern and chassis.

Fitment Differences to Watch For:

While the bolt pattern is the same as the F-150, the Bronco has a few specific quirks for a 17x11 -44 offset setup:

  • Rear Spacing: Unlike the F-150, the Bronco has a tight rear wheel well due to the internal fender tubs. An 11-inch wide wheel with a -44 offset will poke significantly and might catch the fender lip if the rear suspension is soft or heavily loaded.

  • Spare Tire Carrier: If you are running a matching 5th wheel as a spare, a 17x11 wheel is likely too wide and heavy for the factory swing-out tailgate carrier. You would need an aftermarket bumper/tire carrier.

  • 4WD Hubs: Almost all Broncos are 4WD. Ensure the Weld Ventura wheels you choose have the large center bore (typically 108mm) to clear the manual or automatic locking hubs on the front axle.
